We are hosting this exhibition
at a time when there seems to be an explosive interest in Contemporary Indian
Art. We are delighted to introduce a group of very talented emerging artists
along with established ones, some of whom are being shown here for the first
time.
In this show, we have chosen a
group of artists from Baroda, as we are well aware of the significance and the
contribution made by the artists of this city and the role it plays in the
contemporary Indian art scene.
Narrow lanes with dirt sidewalks
punctuated with whiffs of lingering aromas of bhajias coming from distant
kitchen windows. Shukrawadi, the Friday flea market, where artists flock paying
homage to the lost world of beautiful heirlooms from families now forgotten,
architectural details with no addresses, furniture from bygone days.
Sidewalks dotted with chai
stalls are surrounded by artists immersed in animated debate on Foucault and
Derrida at one point while the next moment it’s about current politics. Welcome
to Baroda - a city with a fluidity of artists and intellects - in a constant
state of metamorphosis.
