About the artist Melissa m. Yung (also known as Xi
Yang) was born into a family of artists in canton, china. both her grandfather
and father were well-known artists in the region. she has developed a love for
art and a passion for painting since her childhood. melissa learned chinese
free-style painting and landscape painting from her father.
melissa moved to new york
from hong kong in 1991. she started to learn chinese out-line paintings there
from xiaobai li, a famous chinese out-line painting professor from nanjian,
china.
her painting style has a unique and personal focus on the spirit
of the art she is creating. she combines the techniques of western and
traditional chinese painting styles in a bold and contemporary combination that
results in an art form that is recognizable as her signature art. by applying
western techniques of composition and delineation of color and light, melissa
achieves a noble and soft style of her own combination of realism and
romanism.
she excels in the paintings of flowers and birds with clouds
and water in motion. with powerfully stroked lines and harmonious colors, she
creates unique artistic elements. her paintings are attractive which is directly
attributable to detailed and unusual depiction.
